The Anti-Inflammation Diet

Inflammation can be a good thing. It stimulates the healing process following an injury for example. But prolonged inflammation causes pain and damage to joint tissues, eventually resulting in arthritis. And recent research is linking chronic inflammation to many life-shortening diseases, including coronary artery disease, cancer, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s. You could take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for your pain, but not without risk of serious side effects such as gastric bleeding or kidney disease. A safer and more effective approach is to choose foods that favor an anti-inflammatory balance in your body. Select foods that don’t cause an abrupt spike in your blood sugar, lean proteins, healthy fats such as olive oil, and omega-3 fatty acids from cold water fish like salmon. Include plenty of fiber rich whole grains, fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water.
